The Plains King (Vai Lal)
In Mizo folklore, references to the people of the plains (Vai) appear occasionally. In these stories, they are generally portrayed as having a superior status in terms of wealth. In the story of Mauruangi, her husband is depicted as a very wealthy king with numerous servants. He serves as the one who rescues Mauruangi from the extreme cruelty of her stepmother and elevates her from a pit of deep poverty to a desirable and honored position. [It is no longer possible to determine the specific origin of the "Vai Lal" in the story of Mauruangi. There are no historical records to trace his identity further. Beyond his role as the wealthy husband who marries Mauruangi, there is very little detailed information available about his life or background.]
