A meeting of the State Level Committee (SLC) on implementation of the Gyan Bharatam Mission was convened on 20th April 2026, at 11:00 AM in the Chief Secretary’s Conference Hall. The meeting reviewed the progress and current status of the National Manuscript Survey in the State and deliberated on key measures required to strengthen district‑level implementation and overcome existing bottlenecks.
The Committee noted that the preservation of manuscripts is a national priority, as emphasised by the Hon’ble Prime Minister in his Independence Day Address, and that the Gyan Bharatam Mission, launched by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, aims to identify, document, conserve, and digitally preserve India’s manuscript heritage. The Mission seeks to carry out this task with utmost respect for ownership, cultural sensitivity, and ethical engagement, ensuring that custodial rights are fully protected and that no acquisition or transfer of manuscripts is involved.
Members were informed that manuscripts are valuable remnants of the knowledge, traditions, and wisdom of our ancestors, and preserving them is essential for future generations. Under the Gyan Bharatam Mission, the original manuscripts will always remain with their respective owners or custodians. Any individual or institution who is aware of or possesses a manuscript can participate by using the Gyan Bharatam mobile application. The process is simple: locate the manuscript, provide its location and basic details through the app, and ensure that documentation is carried out in an ethical and respectful manner.
The meeting further resolved that, as the Art & Culture Department is the State Nodal Department for the Gyan Bharatam Mission, officials from the Department will be deputed to all districts to attend District Level Committee meetings and provide orientation and guidance on the objectives, survey process, and ethical documentation practices under the Mission. This initiative is expected to enhance awareness, build trust with manuscript custodians, and accelerate the survey process across the State
